Bread and Games: Cartoons & Caricatures

The exhibition is open from 20 May to 30 October 2016 and can be visited during the operating hours of the Altaussee Salt Mine. Admission is free.


The exhibition series "Art at Steinberg" gathered this year comical Photos about "bread and circuses". The occasion: the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the European Football Championships in France and the general socio-sporting conditions. The motto: Chips in the paunch and football on television -  more is not need to bliss!

37 signatories have left the warmed bed places and sent their doped Humor in the arena. Here, an Olympic gag fireworks in a class with everything you ever wanted to know about bread and circuses ignited: What to do with football fever in the final stages? What sports were in the medieval Olympics? Who liked gladiators on Facebook? When does Piranhas thinking on their cholesterol? And how does a food pyramid for real men looks like?

On display are not less than 120 exhibits of the crème de la crème of German cartoonists scene.

Represented with their works in the exhibition are: adam, Harm Bengen, Axel Bierwolf, Gernot Budweiser, Henning Christiansen, Michael Dufek, Miguel Fernandez, MarcoFinkenstein, Teja Fischer, Katharina Greve, Markus Grolik, Haugrund Anton Heurung, Michael Holt Schulte, Olga Hopfauf, HUSE, Uwe Krumbiegel, Jan Kunz, Jean La Fleur, Dorthe country Schulz, Mario Lars Erik Liebermann, Lo Count of Blickensdorf, Nicolas Mahler, Jürgen Marschal, Matrattel, Oliver Ottitsch, Ari Plikat, POLO, Pfohlmann, Leonard bolt, Stephan Rürup, Schilling & Blum, Andre Sedlaczek, Elisabeth Semrad, Teddy Tietz and Martin Zak.

Catalog "bread and games" (96 pages, hardcover) will accompany the exhibition in the Wood Tree Publishing - available in the "Salzwelten-Shop" in Altaussee and in selected bookstores. The exhibition is a collaboration of art at Steinberg | Altaussee Salt Mine with the comic arts Vienna.
