All important information for your planning at a glance:

Whereas gold fever has always created divisions among people, the search for the “White Gold”, as salt was formerly known, brought them closer together. Feeling threatened by the dangerous work below ground, the people formed closely-knit communities that still exist to this day. But this special sense of kinship is not purely the result of salt mining: it was furthered by the courage of the miners in April 1945 not to let Europe’s most valuable works of art fall victim to the destruction of the Second World War!

An award-winning multi-media show takes visitors back to those turbulent days – ideal for a business trip or a club outing with an extra something!

The walk through the mine also offers a moving group experience, as does the drop into the depths of the mine on wooden slides and the “Treasure Chamber of Inner Light” with the Chapel of St Barbara: built out of natural salt stones, the chapel is the salt mine's place of worship.

  • The mine has a constant temperature of about 7°C, therefore warm clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended
  • A visit to the mine is unaffected by the weather and thus entails no planning problems!
  • Duration of the tour below ground: about 90 minutes
  • Please calculate at least 2 hours for your stay in your travel plans!
  • Maximum size of groups: 80 persons per tour
  • Foreign-language tours (without surcharge)
  • Standard tour: in German and English
