Salzwelten Hallstatt The world’s oldest salt mine
The funicular takes you up into the Hallstatt high valley to the famous Celtic burial grounds. After a tour through the salt mine, where salt was already mined 7,000 years ago, you will race back to daylight on the mine train.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
On August 31st, 2025, the era of the current funicular in Hallstatt will come to an end after 45 years. From September 1st, 2025, the entire Hallstatt site (salt mine, funicular, Skywalk & high valley) will remain closed while the cable car and stations are rebuilt to become some of the most modern in Europe. Until reopening in summer 2026, we recommend visiting Salzwelten Salzburg or Altaussee.
