Good to know before your visit
To reach Salzwelten Hallstatt, take the Hallstatt Funicular up to the Hallstatt High Valley. On the way to the start of your tour, you will pass the world-famous prehistoric burial grounds and can explore a walk-through burial chamber before reaching the Knappenhaus and the entrance to the salt mine. After your guided tour through the world’s oldest salt mine, a scenic walking trail takes you back to the mountain station. Before heading back down to the valley, we recommend a visit to the spectacular Hallstatt Skywalk “World Heritage View”, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Hallstatt and the surrounding mountain panorama.
Children aged 4 and over can visit Salzwelten.
The guided tour through the salt mine lasts approximately 90 minutes. In total, you and your class will spend around 3 hours at Salzwelten Hallstatt.
In order to give you and your students the best experience possible, we limit the maximum group size to 70 people.
The temperature inside the Hallstatt Salt Mine remains at a constant 8°C throughout the year. Regardless of the weather or season, it is always cool inside the mountain. Please make sure that students wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear. That way, they’ll be perfectly prepared for an exciting adventure inside the salt mine!
Guided tours are available in German and/or English. Additional languages are available via the free “Salzwelten Destination Guide”, which can be downloaded to your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Due to local conditions, only public coach parking provided by the municipality of Hallstatt is available. Please use these designated coach parking areas. It is essential to book a coach slot in advance at www.hallstatt-parking.com. Unfortunately, travelling to Hallstatt by coach is not possible without a pre-booked coach slot. Please also note that there is no direct coach access to Salzwelten Hallstatt.
